Sofia Vergara

Sofia Margarita Vergara was born on July 10, 1972 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Vergara had been widely known for co-hosting two TV shows for Univisión in the late 1990s. Raised as Catholic, Vergara was married when she was only 18, and had her first and only son just one year later. All this while Vergara was studying dentistry, and with just one year left in her schooling, was discovered by a photographer on a Columbian beach. Soon she was presented with attractive offers in modeling and television work, and she considered accepting them despite being raised both conservatively and religiously.

Sofia Vergara’s marriage didn’t last long, and when it ended, the fledgling model packed up and moved to Bogoto, Columbia, to pursue an increasing amount of opportunities in show business. Vergara moved to Bogotá, Colombia, at the age of 20, where she worked as a runway model and on television. Besides runway and catalog modeling work, Vergara did independent projects. She was photographed for posters and swimsuit calendars in 1998, 2000, and 2002.

In 2002, Vergara made her big-screen debut opposite Tim Allen, Renee Russo and Zooey Deschanel in the comedy Big Trouble. After that she appeared in a variety of films and television shows including Chasing Papi, The 24th Day, Soul Plane, Lords of Dogtown, Baywatch, My Wife and Kids, andEntourage.

In 2008, Vergara was 62 on Maxim magazine’s “Hot 100″ list. She was named one of People magazine’s “50 most beautiful people” and has been recognized by both the Hollywood Reporter and Billboard as one of the most influential Latinas in Hollywood.

In April 2011, Vergara debuted in a Diet Pepsi commercial with David Beckham.
